Macbeth Act 2 Scene 2

Infirm of purpose!
Give me the daggers.
To wear a heart so white.
So poorly in your thoughts.
‘Tis the eye of childhood, that fears a painted devil.
These five strong quotes from Lady Macbeth talking to Macbeth in Macbeth Act 2 Scene 2 shows the audience that Lady Macbeth is in control of Macbeth and that is a very strong character. She is bossing Macbeth and this makes her the stronger character. This is ironic because men are stereotypically meant stronger than women which in this case works very well. To make herself more powerful, she uses short, sharp sentences which define her point. Finally she uses exclamation marks to show she is angry and frustrated with her ‘weak’ husband.

Lady Macbeth Wants To Be King?

‘That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here,’

At first when reading this soliloquy from Lady Macbeth, many thoughts come to mind. Does she want to change gender or does she want to be become something more than mortal? Well you must read on through the soliloquy to understand Lady Macbeth’s true desires.

‘And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full’ ‘Of direst cruelty! make thick my blood;’
Many of you will be going ‘ohh’ and ‘ahh’ and ‘I understand now!’ However for those who are going ‘WHAT??!! I don’t have a clue.’ Lady Macbeth wants to swap places with her husband, Macbeth, and use his gender to become king.  I know this because she says ‘And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full’ which bascially means, make me become king. Anyone with any knowledge of Lady Macbeth’s character will understand that she has no belief in Macbeth’s ambition to become king. Lady Macbeth’s character seems more commanding than Macbeth and is Macbeth’s ‘second brain’, telling and making decisions for him. Finally in the soliloquy Lady Macbeth is trying to speak to the spirits, if there are any spirits, in the soliloquy….

Letter to Lady Macbeth

Dear wife,

These supernatural beings approached me after I returned from my triumphant battle. They told me many good reports about my future, then they turned into air and vanished. I do not have a single ounce in trust in these beings,. My wife, I wanted to question them further on their ‘prophecies’. Just like they ‘proclaimed’ I received a promotion in the ranks, a very high position indeed. These beings also claimed that I shall be the next king, quote Hail, king that
shalt be!’ Consequently I had a meeting with King Duncan and his son Malcolm. They have a desire to meet us at our castle. This could be my chance to end the king’s rein and begin my reign as king!
Now my dearest wife, I have not made an idea for ceasing the current kings reign, however I have got a few plans up my sleeve. The obvious way is to ‘get rid’ of the king, however I believe that I might not survive to become king. Maybe an ‘accident’ could occur which could leave the king dead. I am very confused and I need thou’s help to help me fulfill my dream. As you can see, with the up most importance, you shall not breathe a word of this letter to anyone.

From, you know who

Life Of Pi Film Review

Logline

Through a terrible tragedy, Pi is separated from his family through a journey to Canada, becomes shipwrecked, and his only companion is Richard Parker, the tiger fighting for survival and searching for the right religion.

Review

The adventure starts in Pondicherry, India where Piscine Patel changes his name to Pi so he can avoid being bullied by his peers. His family owns a zoo however the business is failing this is why the Patel family decide to move to Canada.  On the zoo Pi encounters Richard Parker, the tiger. Then the ship that the Patels were on, started to sink and sadly only Pi survived the tragedy. Pi survives by jumping into a small boat with three different animals, a tiger, a hyena and a orangutan. After a few days on the boat, Pi and the animals become hungry and the hyena kills and eats the orangutan. Pi becomes distressed and Richard Parker eats the hyena. Richard Parker and Pi build up a relationship when they are shipwrecked. They go on an unforgettable journey that tests Pi’s faith and even the viewers faith and beliefs.

Ang Lee includes many different religions and beliefs. Pi’s father acts, behaves and talks like an atheist and contradicts Pi from even having faith in a religion. However his mother is more opened minded and tries to reason with his father. God and science are the two main beliefs in Life Of Pi. It is unknown if Ang Lee uses Life Of Pi to send a message about religions and faith but they sure do add depth to Life Of Pi. This creates question that are not answered specifically in Life Of Pi. He is the god of Life Of Pi universe, always in control.

Life Of Pi is visually very attractive to the eye, in 3D or 2D. Seem less transitions and perfect mirror images creates such an atmosphere that the viewer can believe that they can touch or smell the salty sea water.

5 out of 5 fothe movie Life Of Pi

English Homework- Sherlock And Camera Shots

4 Types Of Shots

Extreme Close Up

Close Up

Long Shot

Mid Shot

I decided to pick a extreme close up because when the camera zooms into the characters face, you can really see their true emotion. For example, in the TV drama Sherlock, Sherlock’s character has very unclear expressions and the extreme close up allows the viewer to truly see what Sherlock is feeling in the scene. However the negative of having a extreme close up is that you can’t see the tone that is the scene because the camera is focusing on the character’s face, not the scene. So this connotes that it depends on the MES (Mise En Scene) whether to use a long shot or a extreme close up.

Writing Assessment- Varying Sentence Structures

Chapter 8 of Animal Farm

Throughout the year us animals worked even harder than we had worked in the previous year. To rebuild the windmill, with the walls twice as thick, at the right time, was astonishing labour.  We animals worked tremendously long hours and yet fed as badly as when Jones’s day. On Sunday mornings Squealer, holding down a long strip of paper with his trotter, would read out to us lists of figures proving that the production of every class of foodstuff had increased by two hundred percent, three hundred per cent, or five hundred per cent, as Squealer exclaimed. We animals saw no reason to disbelieve him. Especially as we couldn’t remember what conditions had been like before the Rebellion. All the same, there were days when we felt that they would sooner have had less figures and more food in our stomachs.

All orders were now issued through Squealer. Napoleon himself was not seen in public as often as once in a fortnight. When he did appear, he was attended not only by his group of menacing dogs, but by a black cockerel who marched in front of him and acted as a kind of trumpeter, letting out a loud “cock-a-doodle-doo” before Napoleon spoke. Even in the farmhouse, Napoleon owned separate apartments from the others. He took his meals alone, with two dogs to wait upon him, and always ate from the Crown Derby dinner service.

Creative Writing Homework

The Napoleon Farm.

Dear Diary,

Months have passed since the expelling of Snowball, and the farm has became a prison!  Ever since that noble leader left, this evil, fat and devilish pig has turned Animal Farm into his own kingdom. He obliterated democracy,  destroyed the beliefs of Old Major and has committed the biggest sin of all, spoke with the humans and put them in control of us! Unbelievable! We are now slaves to these disgusting beings again. Mr Jones enjoys whipping us everyday, swearing at us, and generally ‘killing us’. Literally our morale is in the mud, and because of this, many of the animals have taken their own lives. Squealer, Boxer and many other animals have been betrayed by Napoleon and then betrayed themselves by killing themselves. Uh-oh, got to go, Mr Jones is looking for me! Wish me luck!

Gabriel the pecking chicken.

Animal Farm Homework 3

Task: In Chapter 5, how does Orwell/Squealer use language devices to show the other animals that there is nothing wrong with what Napoleon did, and there is nothing wrong with Animal Farm? I will use PEAL to express my points and views on this task.

Orwell uses language devices and sophisticated language to overwhelm the animals with information to sympathize with Napoleon expelling Snowball out of Animal Farm. Orwell uses Squealer as the mouthpiece for this.

“Suppose you had decided to follow Snowball, with his moonshine of windmills–Snowball, who, as we now know, was no better than a criminal?”  “I trust that every animal here appreciates the sacrifice that Comrade Napoleon has made in taking this extra labour upon himself. Do not imagine, comrades, that leadership is a pleasure! On the contrary, it is a deep and heavy responsibility.” This is evidence that Orwell did use sophisticated language to challenge the animals thoughts on Snowball and Napoleon.

“Moonshine of windmills” is a adjective and is sophisticated language. I think the reason why Orwell used sophisticated language was to mess with the minds of the animals so they would believe Napoleon is the true leader for Animal Farm. I trust that every animal here appreciates the sacrifice that Comrade Napoleon has made in taking this extra labour upon himself ” is also another tactic of Squealer’s to embrace Napoleon as a true leader and Snowball as a outcast. However this quote from the book  “Surely, comrades, you do
not want Jones back” shows how Orwell is always referencing Mr Jones (the dictator of Manor Farm) and how the pigs are becoming more human than they were before. Is this a sign that Napoleon is more of importance than any other animal?

Blog Upgrade

Hi Gabriel,

I’ve upgraded the theme on your blog because you were originally using one that is no longer compatible with the updated version of the blogging system. I’m sorry to have done this unilaterally. If you don’t like the format of this one, you are welcome, as always, to change it to something that better suits your tastes.

Kind regards,
