English Homework- Sherlock And Camera Shots

4 Types Of Shots

Extreme Close Up

Close Up

Long Shot

Mid Shot

I decided to pick a extreme close up because when the camera zooms into the characters face, you can really see their true emotion. For example, in the TV drama Sherlock, Sherlock’s character has very unclear expressions and the extreme close up allows the viewer to truly see what Sherlock is feeling in the scene. However the negative of having a extreme close up is that you can’t see the tone that is the scene because the camera is focusing on the character’s face, not the scene. So this connotes that it depends on the MES (Mise En Scene) whether to use a long shot or a extreme close up.

    Hello Gabriel,

You present a good argument here that focuses on facial expression versus the construction of MES. Which do you feel is more important? Why?

Your writing follows a clear sequential structure that helps to develop your analysis. Keep it up.
